Together for the Long Haul

 

Twenty-three years ago, when planning my wedding ceremony, I knew I didn't want to recite the traditional vows. I looked for something that would have meaning to me and my future husband, and would withstand the test of time.

It needed to be short, sweet and to the point. I found it with the assistance of Crosby, Stills and Nash, borrowed liberally, and recited for all to hear, "We are one person, we are two alone, we are three together, we are for each other." At the end of that little verse, I slipped a ring onto my husband's hand and we began our journey, which is still going strong.

Recently, a friend asked me how I thought of myself, my relationship. Was it different from when my husband and I started dating? Did I think of us as a "onesome" or a "twosome?" Next >
