Plastic surgery is becoming increasingly popular with men, a new study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons indicates.
"Ten years ago I would say my surgical practice was composed of 10 percent men. I say today it's upwards of 30-40 percent," plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond told CBS News.
Many men say that looking younger is important in the competitive business environments they work in. "It's been cited in a number of studies that men who are taller, men who are more attractive, tend to be more successful in the dating world and in the workplace," psychologist David Swanson says.
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, in 2010, 1.1 million men had cosmetic procedures performed. Facelifts have gone up 14 percent in men, with other popular procedures including: pinning ears back, liposuction, eyelid surgery and getting leg veins removed.
Some people credit plastic surgery's increasing societal approval as the reason why many more men are beginning to opt for the procedures-the stigma of admitting to cosmetic surgery has begun to lift. "I see everyone from construction workers and students and teachers, and athletes. I'm seeing it all now," Diamond said.
