Purple Day has caused thousands of people across the country to done a purple outfit today to raise awareness for domestic violence and teen bullying.
The event is being held especially to honor Tyler Clementi and other LGBT teens in light of the recent surge in gay teen suicides, which were largely caused by bullying in schools.
Several iconic structures in New York will also be colored purple tonight including the Queens College Bell Tower, Niagara Falls and Genesee County Court Building.
According to the Evening Sun, the idea to wear goes purple also encourages healthy relationships and behaviors free of violence.
Numerous Catholic Churches are also urging the public to wear purple.
