Roger Federer may be gearing up for an exhibition match with Rafael Nadal, but that hasnt stopped the all-time Grand Slam champion from picking up his long-time rival from the airport Tuesday.
In an eye-rising move, Nadal arrived in Switzerland early morning, met Federer on the runway and then hopped in his red Mercedes SLS AMG for a stroll through downtown. Both players arrived at the Hallenstadion stadium in the late afternoon for a meet and great with children.
Keep in mind that the worlds top ranked players are competing in the first of two exhibition matches, the first in Zurich, followed by a second match in Nadals native Spain.
Although proceeds from the exhibitions will go to the players respective charities, and the results of the game are as frivolous as a preseason football game, sport critics and tennis fanatics are keen to see the match-up of the two tennis greats and what it will mean. Will Federer, the 16 time Grand Slam champion, finally snatch back his top ranking?
Well see.
Both matches will be broadcast by ESPN2 (Tuesday, 2:30 p.m. ET; Wednesday, 1 p.m. ET).
At the 2010 ATP world Tour Finals, Federer defeated Nadal for his fifth title.
