San Francisco International Airport has unveiled what it’s calling the first-ever airport yoga room, a place for travelers to relax and reflect while they wait for their flights.
The 150-foot, blue-walled room, which comes equipped with chairs and yoga mats, is located near the security area of SFO’s recently renovated Terminal 2.
“When we began to remodel Terminal 2, one of our goals was not just to bring the glamour back to air travel but also to make the entire experience less stressful and more enjoyable,” said SFO Director John Martin, as quoted by the San Francisco Chronicle website SFGate. “With the opening of the Yoga Room, SFO has taken another giant leap forward in providing our travelers the opportunity and space to relax and decompress on their own terms.”
KNTV reports that the airport plans to install large, felt-made rocks this spring to give the room a Japanese-style, Zen-garden feel.
Travelers are required to remove their shoes, turn off their cell phones and remain silent while using the Yoga Room.
According to SFO spokesperson Charles Schuler, the Yoga Room will be open whenever the Terminal 2 security checkpoint is in use – currently between 4:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m., KNTV reports.
