Sandra Bullock & Ryan Reynolds Relationship Examined

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds have been the talk of the tabloids recently, and with that in mind - we wanted to take an in depth look at thecelebritycouple's friendship... and the rumors of more on the horizon.

Anyone who wanted to toast 2011 at Bess Bistro in Austin was required to pay a $25 cover. Once inside, patrons soon discovered that the admission also included a priceless sight: owner Sandra Bullock tearing it up on the dance floor - with Ryan Reynolds. "They were very playful, smiling the whole time and occasionally touching. They looked great together," an onlooker tells Us. "They played it coy but definitely had a connection." And you thought The Proposal had a feelgood ending.

After a decade of friendship, sources say, Bullock, 46, and Reynolds, 34, are deepening their bond. "I could definitely see the chemistry between them developing into something more," says a friend close to the actor, noting his enthusiasm on the set of the pair's hit 2009 romantic comedy. "Ryan always got excited talking about Sandra and liked being around her. But they were both married then, so he never thought of going there." Now, of course, he can. Bullock filed for divorce from Jesse James (who rang in 2011 in Austin with new girlfriend Kat Von D) last June in the wake of his cheating scandal. Six months later, as Us first reported, Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson split after two years of marriage. Tm sure they've bonded over the breakups," says the source. "Going through a divorce publicly is a unique thing to live through." (Bullock's rep says, "Sandra and Ryan are nothing except good friends.")

A Fresh StartBullock and Reynolds have actually spent the past several New Year's Eves together with their close circle of friends. This year, the Green Lantern star had to go the extra mile to uphold the tradition. On the afternoon of December 31, he jetted to Austin from Jackson Hole, Wyoming - where he ate at Q. Roadhouse and, according to local rumor, stayed at Bullock's winter residence.Reynolds arrived at her Texas home at 3 P.M., and at around 9:30, the pair - with her dressed in Roaring '2Os attire to fit the night's theme - headed to Bess Bistro and sat in a booth with other pals. "They tried to keep to themselves, but everybody noticed them," says a witness.Bullock hit the dance floor first; Reynolds joined her shortly afterward. "They're good dancers!" says another witness. "Sandra looked really happy. She was glowing." As for a midnight kiss? One staffer hints, "They probably shared a friendly smooch!" They partied until 2 A.M., when Reynolds put his hand on Bullock's lower back as he escorted her to a waiting SUV. According to a source, he and a pal spent the night at her home.Chemistry LessonThe couple's spark was evident to anyone who worked on the Massachusetts set of The Proposal in 2008. They were a good yin and yang," a crew member on the movie, which grossed $317 million worldwide, tells Us. "We always had vanilla saltwater taffy on set, and if Sandy got cranky, Ryan would run over and say, 'Give me candy for Sandy!'" Adds another set source, "They loved to joke around with each other like kids goofing off in class."
Chalk it up to a strong bond between two intensely private, quick- witted and unaffected celebrities. The two met around 2000, when Reynolds starred in the ABC sitcom Two Guys, a Girl GJ a Pizza Place, via his producing partner. Despite a 12-year age gap, they started to hang out socially - but platonically. The pals even stayed tight while Bullock dated Ryan Gosling and he romanced Alanis Morissette. After they settled down with their respective spouses, the foursome vacationed together.Playing love interests only made them closer, as did filming a nude scene. "We could have not been friends after that. It could have been too awkward," said Bullock, who will next film Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close with Tom Hanks. "I don't know how it would have been with anybody else." The co-stars clicked so well that they plan to reunite in the upcoming comedy Most Wanted.Nonetheless, sources are quick to add the two never crossed the line. "They seemed so happy in their relationships," says the crew member, noting that James and Johansson both visited the set. "And they're both so trustworthy."Lean on MeBut their relationship took an unlikely turn in 2010. In the wake of Bullock's divorce - brought on by James' affair with a tattoo model - and subsequent decision to raise their adopted son, Louis, 12 months, solo, Reynolds lent support. In December, he faced his own marital crisis when, sources say, Johansson gave up on their union. "Ryan was humiliated and hurt," says a source. "Sandra was the perfect person for him to reach out to."And it seems like romance could blossom from there. "Judging by their body language, they really like each other, but knew people were watching," says the onlooker at Bess. Others agree it makes sense for the friends to become lovers. "They're so good together," adds the crew member. "It would be awesome because they have fantastic chemistry and they're great people."
