Santa Claus, the iconic symbol of Christmas to children all over the world, was blatantly revealed as non-existent by a New York school teacher to her second-grade class, according to local news website LoHud.com
The Rockland County school teacher told her seven and eight-year old students that Santa Claus does not exist, adding that the presents under the Christmas tree were placed there by their parents. The declaration was made during a geography lesson on the North Pole, Fox News reports.
Parents at the George W. Miller Elementary School in Nanuet were appalled and outraged by the inconsiderate revelation made by the unidentified teacher.
"It's outrageous that a teacher would strip a child of their innocence and try and demystify something," said 59-year-old Margaret Fernandez, reported Fox News.
“I think this is awful. If it happened to my granddaughter, I'd tell her [that] her teacher made a mistake, and there is a Santa," a grandmother of a kindergartener added.
The school has yet to confirm whether any disciplinary action would take place to address the incident.
District Superintendent Mark McNeill only indicated the accusations are being investigated and said, "This matter is being addressed internally," in a brief statement, Fox News reports.
