Stock prices opened slightly on the low side Friday for 2011’s final day of trading.
The Associated Press reports that the Dow Jones industrial average had declined 27 points to 12,260 minutes after the opening bell. The Nasdaq had lost 4 points at 2,610. The S&P 500, which is scraping by in barely positive territory for the year, was down 2 at 1,261, according to AP.
On Thursday, an optimistic jobs report and positive news about home sales brought stocks up. The boost also gave the S&P the gains it needed to bring it out of the red for 2011.
CNN and AP reported that Friday is expected to be a quiet day on the New York Stock Exchange, as many traders have already called it a year.
