Taco Bell has a case of mystery meatnot that anyone should be surprised or hasnt been aware of since the fast food chains inception.
But someone is finally taking action into their own handsan Alabama woman has filed a law suit claiming that the taco chain is using false advertising when it says its Mexican-inspired eats are filled with ground beef.
The class-action lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court in California by an Alabama law firm on behalf of a California woman, Amanda Obney, alleges the taco meat filling is only 35% ground beef, the rest comprised with preservative, binders, extenders, additives and other agents.
According to the United States Department of Agricultures website, ground beef should only consist of beef and no additives.
The claim coincides with the restaurants ingredients list on its website, which says the seasoned beef contains water, sodium phosphates, soy lecithin, modified corn starch, and anti-caking and anti-dusting agents, among others ingredients.
But Obney isnt looking for moneyshe just wants Taco Bell to be more honest to their customers.
"We are asking that they stop saying that they are selling beef," the law firm said.
Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch told The Associated Press that the company doesnt partake in false advertisement.
Taco Bell prides itself on serving high quality Mexican inspired food with great value. Were happy that the millions of customers we serve every week agree, Poetsch said, adding that the company would vigorously defend the suit.
