Tampa Police: Suburban Mother Killed Teenage Children
Tampa police say a suburban mother was charged Friday with shooting and killing her two teenage children for being "mouthy."
Julie Powers Schenecker, 50, admitted to the double homicide before she was escorted by authorities to the Tampa police station Friday morning, spokeswoman Laura McElroy said.
Officials discovered the body of Schenecker's daughter, Calyx Powers Schenecker, 16, in an upstairs bedroom after responding to a call from a remote relative who hadn't been able to reach Schenecker. The suspect's son, Powers Beau Schenecker, 13, was found in the garage, AP reports.
Police believe the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Both children were shot with a .38-caliber rifle.
"I don't think there's an explanation that could make us understand," McElroy said, according to TampaBay.com. "She did tell us that they talk back and they were mouthy."
The children's father, Army Col. Parker Schenecker, 48, is currently stationed overseas in Qatar. He was notified of their deaths Friday.
