Ulcerative Colitis Treatment Approved For Children Over Six

Ulcerative colitis can be treated with Johnson & Johnson's drug Remicade, the Food and Drug Administration decided.

Children over six with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis can use the drug, which is already approved for adults with the condition, the Associated Press reports.

Remicade is also FDA-approved to treat 15 other conditions including rheumatoid arthritis, plaque psoriasis and Crohn's, according to the Associated Press.

Ulcerative colitis is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that affects 20,000 to 40,000 children in the U.S., according to the Food and Drug Administration.
