A former University of Missouri defensive tackle has been charged in Sacramento with a string of home invasions and a sexual assault, The Associated Press reported Thursday.
Keith Jerome Wright, 31, is being held without bail in the Sacramento County Jail after being charged at his arraignment Thursday with one felony count each of robbery, kidnapping, burglary and sexual battery.
A native of Santa Clara, Calif., in 2001 Wright was considered Missouri's "most valuable defensive lineman," reported The Sacramento Bee. Later, he was one of 122 collegiate players named to the 2002 Rotary Lombardi Awards watch list.
Sacramento police arrested Wright earlier this week after he became their sole suspect in a citywide string of burglaries that began in late July. DNA evidence helped implicate Wright in the sexual assault; his DNA was in the system due to a prior felony arrest. Sacramento police Sgt. Norm Leong says it's believed Wright acted alone and chose his victims randomly.
Wright was drafted from the University of Missouri by the Houston Texans in the sixth round in 2003. His brief career, in which he saw little playing time, also including stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions.
