Vanna White and Pat Sajak have their “Wheel of Fortune” double act practically down to an art now, but Sajak recently admitted that he and White weren’t always so polished. According to Reuters, the “Wheel” host told ESPN2 that he and White were drunk during the tapings of some early episodes of the show.
“When I first started and was much younger and could tolerate those things, we had a different show then,” Sajak, 65, said on the set of “Dan Le Batard is Highly Questionable.”
While prizes were loaded onto the Burbank, California set, Sajak and White would relax with some “great margaritas” at a nearby restaurant, he said. During the two-and-a-half hour breaks, the co-hosts would get so drunk they would have difficulties on set.
“Vanna and I would go across and have two or three or six [margaritas], and then come and do the last shows and have trouble recognizing the alphabet,” Sajak said.
But that’s all in the past for the duo.
“Now, if I were to inhale the cork and a bottle of wine I would probably keel over,” he added. “I’m getting a little older for this.”
Sajak and White have been co-hosting “Wheel of Fortune” since 1983, Reuters reported. The popular game show first appeared in 1975 with Chuck Woolery and Susan Stafford.
