ePassporte, a third-party payment service for web commerce, announced last week that its program had been suspended by banking partner Visa.ePassporte owner Christopher Mallick was perplexed, saying, To us, it is unconscionable that such action would be taken without the opportunity for ePassporte to fully understand Visas reasons and to be able to take all steps necessary to keep our program running the way it has so successfully done for over seven years. But that is what Visa has done, XBIZ.com reported. So far, Visa has been tight-lipped about the reasons behind the suspension, disclosing in their September 7 statement that "[a]t the request of St. Kitts-Nevis-Anguilla National Bank (SKNA), Visa blocked network access for prepaid cards issued by SKNA and operated by ePassporte.com to address certain program deficiencies, reported BankInfoSecurity.com.ePassporte essentially offers two services: a physical debit card and an electronic payment facility on their website. If you are a prepaid cardholder, not to worry; Visa will still allow access to funds through SKNA or ePassporte.com. "Visa is committed to maintaining the integrity of its global payment network and routinely conducts due diligence to ensure Visa prepaid programs adhere to the company's stringent program requirements and controls," the company asserted in its statement. An ePassporte spokesperson told AVN Media Network, Its an issue with Visa, not with our bank. All of our functions outside of Visa are working perfectly.Hopefully, the issue will be resolved in the coming days so that account holders will have easier access to their funds again.
