Wayne Rooney Tweets Photo After Hair Transplant

Soccer star Wayne Rooney debuts his new look after his recent hair transplant.

U.K. soccer star Wayne Rooney tweeted a photo of his head after undergoing a hair transplant that cost 30,000 pounds according to the Daily Mail.

The 25-year-old was optimistic about his procedure but still slightly in pain, tweeting, “Hi all, there’s my head. It will take a few months to grow. Still a bit bloody, too. But that’s all normal.”

Rooney, a striker for England and Manchester United, decided to undergo the surgery after going bald at his relatively young age. Though he admitted that the procedure left him slightly bruised and swollen, he said he was “delighted with the result.” He was later spotted wearing a hoodie and baseball cap, presumably to hide the flecks of blood commonly left behind on transplant patients.

During typical hair transfers, hairs are transplanted from an area of healthy growth to the bald patch in groups of one to four hairs, the Mail reported. Hairs are plucked from the donor and then transplanted onto the head of the patient after a local anesthetic is used to dull the pain. Particular attention is paid to the density and angle of the hairs in order to give the transplant as realistic a look as possible.

Rooney had the procedure done at a London clinic amid the support of his teammates and wife, Coleen. He and his family will soon be off the Barbados for their summer holiday where he will presumably debut his new look further.
