Yesha Callahan: The Woman Who Revealed the Chris Lee Scandal
Yesha Callahan has been named as the woman who brought the Christopher Lee scandal to the public.
Callahan is a single, 34-year-old African-American woman, who was searching and posting on Craigslist because I thought it would be fun to see what type of men would send me their photos because dating in D.C. sucks.
This week, it was discovered that Lee was responding to a personal ad on Craigslist, claiming to be a 39-year-old divorced lobbyist but using his real name, and sending Callahan a now infamous shirtless photo.
According to CBS News, when Callahan realized Lee was a member of Congress, her "first reaction was holy ----. Second was, he's probably done this before. Third was, he's married. Fourth was, oh my god he's 46-years-old."
Callahan then approached the website Gawker, turning over the email conversations between herself and the Congressman. After confirming the facts, Gawker published its expos on Feb. 9. As a result of the scandal, Lee resigned from office the same day. He issued a statement of apology, saying, I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents... I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness.
Callahan did not express any guilt over what happened. "Chances are," she said to TheLoop21 website, "he's probably met more women online and, you know, cheaters eventually get caught. He didn't have to resign. He made that choice himself.
