Happy Thanksgiving!

This is just a short post to wish everyone the happiest of Thanksgiving holidays.  The astrological aspects for Thanksgiving this year are pretty darn good, and I hope that all of you enjoy the good vibes in the sky.  This year, the sun, Venus, and Jupiter will all be in the Sagittarius for the holiday.  That's three happy planets in a sign associated with optimism and abundance.  Venus brings harmony to the Thanksgiving table. Jupiter brings a healthy appetite for both life and food, so it will be cheering us on as we all over-indulge a bit in yummy goodies.  The sun, meanwhile, gives us the consciousness to be grateful for all we have; it allows us to reflect on all the good in our lives.  More…

Understanding Transits

I got an email from someone today who said that she didn't really understand transits. There are at least several ways to understand transits. First, a few basics. At any given moment, the various planets (and other elements used in astrology) are at a particular point along the astrological wheel. So we say, for example, that Neptune is in Aquarius at 22 degrees. We say that Neptune is in Aquarius because Neptune (if you could see it with the naked eye) would appear to be very slowly traveling through the constellation of Aquarius. More…

Mid-life Values Voters, Plus Some Notes and Updates

IIt's been eclipse season and a time of transition for ThirdAge, for me, and for lots of folks. I feel I've been a bit out of the loop here lately, and I feel like posting a few updates on various matters. First, a shout-out to the inimitable Elsa P. who has incorporated Astro News into her site. Lynn Hayes has also moved her blog to BeliefNet, and you can check it out here. More…

The Astrology of Menopause and Peri-menopause

Since I specialize primarily in working with women who are in midlife, I naturally talk to women who are dealing with various aspects of menopause and peri-menopause. I had never really looked into the astrology of menopause-related symptoms until recently (when I went through a bunch myself). Now that I have, I thought I'd share a few findings with those of you who are interested. First, a few caveats and disclaimers: This information comes from my own records and observations and it isn't in the least bit complete or definitive. Nor can it help you diagnose or treat symptoms; you'll need an M.D. or an alternative health practitioner for that. More…

Midlife Transits: Neptune Opposition Pluto

Neptune opposition Pluto is a midlife transit that occurs when people are in their mid-50s, at least for this generation. Pluto's orbit is irregular so when Neptune will move into opposition with it varies from generation to generation. Right now, people born during the years 1951 to 1955 are affected. People born in 1956 through 1958 will be affected soon. So what does this transit bring? More…

Changes Afoot

A number of things are developing in the sky that suggest exciting changes in store for many by the time summer draws to a close. The next new moon occurs on August 1 in the sign of Leo, and it's a solar eclipse. This alone is enough to signal changes ahead for many people. In my experience, eclipses most often bring exciting or surprising changes in the houses affected based on the solar chart rather than the natal chart. In other words, you can get a sense of the potential effects based on your sun sign. More…

Problem-Solving Skills

The next couple of months see a lot of emphasis on the sign of Virgo, one of the best problem-solving signs in the zodiac. One of the reasons Virgo is so good at solving problems is that it actively looks for them and pays attention to them, unlike some other signs that prefer the 'try not to think about it and hope for the best' approach. Since last September, Saturn has been in the sign of Virgo. This gives everyone an opportunity to solve at least one life problem that would otherwise seem too difficult or complicated to tackle. Do You Belong to a Self-Obsessed Generation?

The Pew Research Center released a report recently that described baby boomers as the gloomiest generation in the US over the last couple of decades. Opinions as to the reasons for this vary, and I'm not entirely sure myself whether baby boomers are gloomy or some of the other generations are just unreasonably optimistic! But I must say I was struck by some of the explanations I ran across, such as this one: "What else would one expect from that self-obsessed generation?" More…

5 More Weight Loss Tips for July

Last week, I posted some weight loss tips inspired by Saturn and Mars being together in Virgo as of July 1. The stars in July happen to impact my solar and natal 6th houses quite a bit, so I continue to be maybe more pumped up than most about the prospect of getting control (Saturn) of my eating habits (Virgo, 6th house). But I still maintain that the astrology is good enough for anyone to take advantage of and that the summer weather for those of us in North America provides plenty of motivation. I've already made my simple plan, done some healthy food shopping, and hauled out some weights suitable for walking with. Following are 5 more tips, and I wish anyone who wants to join me good luck and good stars. More…

Time to Lose Weight: 5 Steps to Taking Advantage of Summer's Weight-Loss Astrology

Summer is a traditional time to start a weight-loss program as hot weather and skimpy clothes provide incentive. This year, all of us with pounds to lose are getting a little astrological help from Mars and Saturn in Virgo. Mars moves into Virgo on July 1, giving us a near-perfect opportunity to turn over a healthy new leaf. For my money, this is the best time all year to start a weight-loss program from an astrological perspective, and I plan to practice what I preach. Following are 5 tips to take advantage of the planets' energy, as well as a little bit about the astrology. Next week, I hope to post more tips.  More…
