False Attacks: Hillary Clinton and the Astrology of Victimhood

Hillary Clinton briefly made the news awhile ago for claiming that she'd been under sniper fire attack as she alighted from a plane on a trip to Bosnia during her husband's presidency.  This proved somewhat embarrassing as video clearly shows that there was no attack at the time. On one level, this "misremembering" only shows what Clinton says it shows, that's she human. People unconsciously exaggerate all the time, especially when they are trying to make something fit into a story they are trying to tell. What is fascinating about this episode, though, is how literal Clinton accidentally was in revealing the story she wants to tell. For the story Clinton repeatedly wants to tell is "I am under attack." Even when she isn't. More…

Jupiter Sextile Uranus: Lucky Opportunities Ahead

Over the next couple of months, Jupiter in Capricorn will be in close sextile to Uranus in Pisces. One of the interpretations of the sextile angle is "opportunity." Jupiter is traditionally a significator of luck, and Uranus is considered the planet of the unexpected. Put these three things together and you have the potential for people all signs to capitalize on unexpected but lucky opportunities this spring. Following is a brief rundown by sign of the types of opportunities you might want to be on the lookout for. More…

Updates: War in Iraq, President Bush, and Obama

Today I'm going to post updates on a few topics I've addressed before. First up, the war in Iraq. When Saturn was opposing Neptune last year, I expressed the opinion (maybe in this blog) that once the opposition ended the way would be clear for democracy to take root without being blocked by selfish sectarian interests. The talk at the time was all about "political reconciliation," and the surge was advertised as a way to give Iraqi politicians the space to achieve it. That didn't exactly happen. Much like our political leaders, I wasn't exactly right in my predictions, and I wasn't exactly wrong. More…

Uranus/Mars Transits

Someone wrote me the other day asking about Uranus transits, specifically transits to Mars. It's an interesting topic (to me at least) as I've observed them over the last few years that Uranus has been in Pisces. If Obama continues to be a presidential nominee candidate into the summer of this year, we'll also get to a see Uranus transit to Mars in action in a public figure, as Uranus will oppose his Mars in Virgo. I'll focus my remarks on challenging Uranus transits to Mars placements in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces). The following remarks are based on observation, not theory, so feel free to add your own comments if know anything about these transits. More…

A Winner or Just Words: Too Close to Call

Well, I told myself that on March 4, I'd actually sit down and look at the candidate's charts for more than 30 seconds, and then come to a conclusion as to who would win. Rather frustratingly, I find instead that my analysis mirrors reality. It feels too close to call, as least between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. As in real life, my question with Obama comes down to whether his campaign amounts to just words or whether he is in fact a winner. For me, the astrological answer rests on his birth time. I was given a birth time by someone awhile ago that seemed plausible enough, but now that I sit down with it, I'm not so sure. More…

Signs, Planets, Houses, Aspects

Often when I encounter someone an astrological sign will pop into my head. "Gemini!" my mind will shout. Or "Pisces!" Or "Leo!" or "Capricorn!" What I have discovered over the years is that the association is not popping into my head because the the person's sun sign is Gemini or Pisces or Leo or Capricorn. Often it is popping into my head because the planet or house associated with that sign is prominent in a person's chart. Whenever I see John McCain, for example, the word "Aries!" pops into my head. John McCain is not an Aries. But he does have a very prominent Mars in Leo the 10th house (if the birth time I have is correct). Mars is the ruler of Aries. Aries also happens to be the sign on his Descendant. Signs on the angles often seem to be much more visible to people than other signs in the chart, particularly during public or non-intimate encounters. More…

A Good Opportunity to Break A Bad Habit

Boomers in their mid to late 40s are getting a wonderful opportunity these days to put a bad habit behind them or to make a desirable lifestyle change. The opportunity comes courtesy of Saturn in Virgo, which will sit upon (conjoin) the natal Pluto in Virgo placements of an entire generation. I am seeing a fair number of clients going through Saturn conjunct Pluto, and themes seem to be emerging. Barack Obama, for example (not a client, just an example) recently quit smoking, and he is undergoing the Saturn conjunct Pluto transit. Other clients are doing things like joining Weight Watchers, eliminating wheat or dairy from their diets due to allergies, or giving up sugar or alcohol for health reasons. More…

Ledger and Romney: Public Transits in Real Life

As most of you probably know by now, actor Heath Ledger was found dead in January of an apparent accidental overdose caused by a variety of prescription drugs. As you may also know, Mitt Romney recently suspended his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. Both of these public events provide good illustrations of how transits can actually work in real people's lives--whether they know anything about astrology or not. In the case of Heath Ledger, when someone dies of drug-related causes, I suspect a heavy Neptune transit. Sure enough, Mr. Ledger was just completing a square of Neptune in Aquarius to his natal Uranus in Scorpio when he died, along with a sextile between Neptune in Aquarius and his natal Neptune in Sagittarius. Out with the Old; In With the New

The time is ripe to clean out the garage (literally or metaphorically) and make way for a new cycle. There are many symbols of this shift in the skies these days, but today I'll concentrate on the new eclipse series in Aquarius and Leo that begins today. There are lots of ways to interpret eclipses, some of them quite detailed. I'll focus on a simple and practical way to look at them in terms of sun sign. I find this method to be generally accurate and helpful in my own life and for clients. More…

Neptune Runs for President...

....while Pluto questions his patriotism and his religion. Apparently, you don't need to know a dang thing about astrology to respond very strongly to its symbolism. Presumably the vast majority of the mainstream journalists covering Barack Obama don't know that he has sun square Neptune in his chart or that Neptune is most likely very close to his Ascendant. But that doesn't stop them from dishing out the Neptunian descriptions of the man and his candidacy 24/7. Indeed, if you want to know what Neptune's influence looks like in the real world, take a look at Obama. More…
