Plan to Use Saturn in Virgo to Lose Weight

A couple of weeks ago, I talked briefly about using the power of wishing to lose weight as opposed to trying to use willpower and good intentions.  It occurred to me that 2007 is the ideal year astrologically to use this method as there are a plethora of weight loss aspects coming up some months from now.  So I'll give you a step by step plan you can use, and I'll briefly explore the pros and cons of using this method.  Grab your pen and paper, or fire up your printer, and take notes.  More…

Americans Predict Gloom and Doom

There is just something about human nature that loves to make gloomy predictions of disaster.  "End of Days" prophets have drawn leagues of followers predicting that the world will end (soon) seemingly for as long as civilization has been around. None of them have been right yet, but their faithful adherents keep hoping. Nostradamus, with his startling if cryptic prophecies of various forms of apocalypse, continues to sell books at a brisk pace, long after his death. The Bible's Book of Revelations contains one of the most vivid descriptions of the end of the world ever written. On a much more modest level, a recent poll found Americans predicting their own versions of gloom and doom for the US in the coming year. More…

Anti-New Year's Resolutions

I must be feeling contrary today, because I don't feel like supporting the American custom of New Year's resolutions to lose weight, get fit, set sensible goals, and be a better person.  I was going to make my own resolution(s), but somehow, the spirit is not with me.  Part of this is that I know that most New Year's resolutions are astrologically doomed to be tossed in the scrap heap by the third week of January.  I've said this before, and I'll undoubtedly say it again--the thing that every year makes us want to adopt those bracing New Year's resolutions to get all disciplined and do something unappealing but good for us is the transiting sun in Capricorn.  More…

Can You Tell a Bad Driver by Sun Sign?

Here's a little astrological road trip diversion.  I happened to find the link to this study on astrological sun signs and bad driving records while surfing Yahoo! the other day.  I'm not going to vouch for the accuracy of this analysis, but since I did take a road trip this holiday season, I found myself wondering if you really can spot a driver by his or her astrological sign.  More…

Working With Difficult Pluto Transits

A reader wrote in to ask if there's a way to work with difficult Pluto transits rather than against them.  There are ways, and I'll use this space to mention a few of the ones you don't hear about too often.  People undergoing difficult Pluto transits right now are people born near the end of the sun signs Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.  People with natal planets (like the Moon) in the late degrees of these signs are also in the midst of difficult Pluto transits.  People with planets in the late degrees of Aries and Leo are undergoing easier Pluto transits. People in their early 40s are undergoing transits to natal Pluto in Virgo or will be soon.  That's a lot of people affected by Pluto! More…

Frustration!

Transiting Mars (the planet of frustration) has been squaring my natal Pluto (the planet of paranoia) the past couple of days.  Squares tend to bring out the worst in planets, so the result, as you might guess, is that I've been paranoid and frustrated the past few days.  Sometimes I think I'm paranoid because I'm frustrated, and sometimes I think I'm frustrated because I'm paranoid. Transiting Mars is in Sagittarius, and my natal Pluto is in Virgo. Natal Pluto is in Virgo for most people in their 40s, so I imagine a lot of people of my generation will have their moments of frustration this holiday season.  More…

You Don't Need Permission to Exercise Your Free Will Muscle

Seems like I've been encountering an awful lot of clients these days who are dealing with oppositions.  Oppositions, in astrological code talk, often translate into outside obstacles or difficult conditions.  During an opposition, you could encounter a boss that stresses you out so badly you want to kill someone.  Or face layoffs in your workplace.  Or find yourself seriously considering divorce.  The truth is, everyone faces oppositions or obstacles in life. Everyone goes through times when the universe seems largely against them.  The question is--what do you do during these times?  More…

Born Before 1946? Tell Me About Your Saturn Return

One of the predictable crises of older adult life is represented by the second Saturn return.  This astrological event occurs when you are around 56 to 60 years old as Saturn returns to the sign it was in when you were born.  For example, if you were born between mid-1946 and mid-1948, you're having your second Saturn return right now. Saturn is in Leo now, the same sign it was in when you were born.  Since Saturn stays in a sign for about two years, the second Saturn return lasts about that long.  It's called the second Saturn return because each person goes through an earlier Saturn return at the age of 28 to 30.  So what is the second Saturn return supposed to be like and why might it be called a predictable crisis?  More…

Astrology and Holidays

My family is making Thanksgiving plans, and I got to thinking about astrology and holidays in general.  Thanksgiving occurs when the sun's in Sagittarius--which seems kind of appropriate because Sagittarius is a sign of abundance and social interaction.  Christmas occurs when the sun's in Capricorn--not a very Christmasy sign.  But the Christmas season, indeed the whole winter holiday season, takes place throughout the sun's transit in Sagittarius.  Besides abundance, Sagittarius encourages generosity (perfect for giving gifts) as well as reflection on some of the deeper meanings of life.  Seems like a pretty good fit. Interestingly, the sign also encourages taking on too much, reactivity, and the saying of imprudent things. Hence, I suppose, some of those famed holiday tensions as family members who have taken on too much let loose with a few things that cause reactions.  Not to mention, the sign of Sagittarius can be associated with packing on the holiday pounds! Getting Lucky

I read an article today that sparked a memory.  It said kids like lucky children better than unlucky ones.  I was not a lucky kid.  I remember being 7 years old and deciding that being perceived as unlucky was not going to work for me. I saw my second grade teacher repeatedly picking on an another unlucky kid in my class, and I made up my determined little mind that I was not going to be perceived as vulnerable and unlucky--and I was not going to be picked on by teachers or anyone else due to bad fortune in my life.  I was going to be a "lucky" kid if it killed me.
