Of all the things which wisdom provides to make life entirely happy, much the greatest is the possession of friendship. -- Epic

This has been a week of girlfriends for me.  My three closest girlfriends and I have been able to spend time together just talking and playing. What fun to simply wile away the day in the company of a good friend.  Most recently I spend two days with my best girl friend.  We have been close friends for over twenty-five years.  It has been said that if you are lucky you can count your close friends on the fingers of one hand.  This makes me reflect back on all the friends that have come and gone in my life and the ones who have remained.  Why did they remain?  What was the bonding and glue that kept us together?  I think it was the fact that we kept laughing and crying together.  We simply kept sharing long after the initial connection. Love the moment and the energy of the moment will spread beyond all boundaries. -- Corita Kent

Yesterday a friend reminded me that several weeks ago when I was experiencing a wonderful time in my life, she had told me to enjoy the moment because this was subject to change.  I did enjoy the moments and it did change.  I told her about the change that had happened and she reminded me that this was part of my life.  I had to accept the changes both happy and sad and learn how to embrace each side of the spectrum with strength.   More…

How sublime a thing to suffer and be strong. – Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

just returned from a trip to Maine where I stayed in the Longfellow room of a bed and breakfast.  All the books and décor were dedicated to Longfellow.  I grew up in Maine and although I knew of Longfellow I never really took the time to read his life story.  He was a genius with words, and a warm and sensitive man. He was the first to write stories and poetry about early and Native American life. More…

Average, Boring Days

One appreciates that daily life is really good when one wakes from a horrible dream, or when one takes the first outing after a sickness.  Why not realize it now? – William Lyon Phelps My husband called me just now to see how my day was going. “Same old same old.” I told him.  Meaning that it was just an ordinary average day.  Nothing exciting just the same old Wednesday routine. However this made me think about this quote from Phelps.  An average day is a wonderful day when the days before have been filled with sickness, stress, and worry.  When troubles prevail and then lift the ordinary can seem extraordinary. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could learn to appreciate the ordinary average days of our lives? More…

The thing I fear most is fear. -- Michel de Montaigne

This morning I woke up from a bad dream.  I woke up tense and sad.  Bad dreams do that to you.  Bad dreams can set the mood for the day.  A bad mood can create a day of unhappy experiences.  So the real question is how to let go of a bad dream and move into a good mood?  Because a good mood is what makes for a good day! With each sunrise, we start anew. ANON

As you get older it is harder to have heroes, but it is sort of necessary. -- Earnest Hemingway

I just contributed to an article for a magazine about things we can do for 90 seconds or less that can improve our health and our moods.  The idea is to have a repertoire of quick and easy things you can do at times of stress to relax and let go. 90 seconds is not a long time.  However there are some things that we do that can make a minute seem like forever! The idea made me think about all the little things I do during the day that take 90 seconds or less. Brushing my teeth, making a cup of tea, eating a banana, kissing my husband good-by, making the bed, combing my hair, and sometimes just staring out the window without a thought, all take less than 90 seconds. I thought I would share with you some of the things I have contributed and hope you find at least one helpful that you can add into your day. More…

If there is to be any peace it will come through being, not having. -- Henry Miller

My trip to Turkey and Greece was full of frantic running and rushing to see all the wonderful sights.  What a wonderful part of the world so full of ancient culture and simple life styles.  The pace of the natives was so different than our American ways.  It always amazes me when I travel in Europe how time takes on a different meaning.  More…

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy

Taking the time to play and to rest are probably the most important things we can do to insure we find balance in our lives.  As I am writing this blog I am getting ready to leave for two weeks vacation. We are going to Turkey and Greece.  I feel tired and ready to get away from it all and just relax.  More…

You are only as Young as you are Flexible

Probably one of the most important components of yoga or any exercise routine is flexibility.  When the body is flexible we have greater range of motion, and are able to do more physical activities. More…
