Eat Grass for Energy

For a healthy food that adds to the household decor, fitness gurus are pushing grass -- in liquid form of course -- loaded with vitamins and energy boosters -- once you get over the taste.

Not just any old grass, mind you -- it has to be a variety called wheat grass andhas becomeone of the hottest trends in the health food world. Experts say wheat grass is one of the richest natural sources of Vitamins A, B and C, and researcher Josephine Fairley reports that one pound of the stuff is said to contain the same amount of nutrients as 23 pounds of vegetables.

It does appear to be something of an acquired taste. Tim Whitaker, chief squeezer at London's Planet Organic juice bar, concedes "some customers can't stomach the flavor" -- described by one as "liquefied lawn clippings with a dash of aniseed" -- although others "just love it." He interprets the stomach discomfort that occasionally accompanies its consumption as "just a sign that it's helping the detoxing process."

London florist John Carter insists that, in addition to being healthy, wheat grass is aesthetically pleasing. "It's very 'now' because it's so healthy looking, in line with the shift to all things organic," he says, "and it adds peaceful green to an urban setting -- the perfect antidote to metropolitan frenzy."
