Drink Your Vegetables With Juicing

The Benefits Of Juicing

It would be tough to find a medical expert who didn’t agree that most Americans need to add vegetables to their diets.  As countless studies have shown, vegetables protect our bodies from conditions such as heart disease, cancer, even age-related arthritis. Although getting these added nutrients into our daily diets isn’t always easy, there is a guaranteed way to boost veggie intake. Turn them into juice and drink your vegetables.

Juicing with fresh veggies not only offers health-filled nutrients and enzymes in an easily digestible way, but it really packs them in. For example, it takes a pound of carrots to make a glass of juice. How else could we consume that many carrots in a day?

Juicing also breaks down essential vitamins and minerals in vegetables into a liquid form that makes the fiber in these foods easy to digest. Through juicing, nearly 100% of nutrients are absorbed by the body.

And while we’re singing the praises of juicing consider this: vegetables, like our human bodies, are made up largely of water. Juicing makes this water available to the body in a pure natural form. Convinced juicing might be the way to go?

Try these ingredients:

Cucumbers: They clean your kidneys, lower blood pressure and benefit skin and hair. Cucumber also helps cut the strong taste of many other veggies. It’s high in silica, which is good for tendons, muscles and bones. Carrots: Are high in vitamin A and thus are great for your eyesight. They also protect you from certain cancers and boost your immune system.

Parsley: Is an extremely nutritious herb with a strong taste. It cleanses the urinary tract, blood and helps protect you from kidney and liver cancer. Parsley also increases oxygen to your brain to boost memory. Mix only one part parsley to 10 parts of other vegetables. A few more tips: Don’t combine fruits and vegetables. These foods require different digestive processes. And drink your fresh juice alone, not with food. Drink it on an empty stomach and don't eat food for about one hour after consuming your juice. This is because the juice is able to carry its powerful nutrients through your system, directly into the blood stream. If your body is attempting to digest food at the same time, it could defeat the purpose. Bottoms up! Robin Westen is ThirdAge’s medical reporter. Check for her daily updates.
