ConsumerLab.com, a Web site that analyzes the content of dietary supplements, has published a book, Health, Harm or Rip-Off? Whats Really In Your Vitamins & Supplements?, to help consumers find out which brands are best. The company says the guide will be the first based on comprehensive laboratory testing of popular supplements sold over-the-counter in the United States.
The guide is targeted to the 158 million Americans who buy herbal, mineral, vitamin and other supplements, says ConsumerLab. Readers will discover:
- which brands meet or fail to meet ConsumerLab.coms quality standards
- which vitamin products have ingredients levels that are too low or too high
- which herbs are most likely to be contaminated or made with the wrong plant parts
"With the explosion of interest in ConsumerLab.com's results, we have received many requests from people who want our information but lack Web access," says Dr. Tod Cooperman, author and president of ConsumerLab.com.
ConsumerLab.com independently tests dietary supplements sold in the United States -- products that are not regulated as drugs. Company tests have shown many supplements do not contain what their labels say they do.
