If you have carpal tunnel syndrome, you know it’s no fun. You might experience a tingling in your hand, numbness, night time awakening because of pain, chilliness and/or a weakness in parts of your hand. Women are more apt to get the condition, and it can occur at any age. The good news is there are proven ways to help alleviate the pain.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a nerve disorder usually caused by repetitive movements: Common triggers include working on a computer, playing an instrument, pressing down on spray bottles, or certain repetitive sports movements. If you’re suffering from it, try these methods for relief:
Change the way you use a handle. If you use spray cleaners a lot, try alternating hands frequently when pushing down. Also, if you’re repetitively using a tool, like a paint brush, wrap a cloth tightly around the handle to make it easier to grip without having to put pressure on your hand.
Opt for an ice pack. This is the best home remedy to treat carpal tunnel syndrome. Apply an ice pack on the infected area. It may offer full relief from the pain or at least reduce it noticeably.
Exercise your wrists. Extend and stretch both wrists and fingers acutely as if they are in a hand-stand position. Hold for a count of five. Next, straighten both wrists and relax fingers. Make a tight fist with both hands then bend both wrists down while keeping the fist. Hold for a count of five.
