Training your dog to use a bell when he needs to go out
Has anyone ever trained a dog to ring a bell when nature calls? I have a very bright Teacup Poodle who was trained at a young age to tap a desk bell every time he was taken out. This repetition over time made him associate the need to go out with ringing the bell. He is almost 5 years old now, and I still chuckle every time he taps his paw on that bell to go out. If I am preoccupied, he sometimes will tap it repeatedly (which of course, I think is the cutest thing), and on occasion he will pick it up in his teeth and throw it at me! He has a wonderful sense of humor!
Wouldn't it be easier if he
Wouldn't it be easier if he just stood by the door and barked like to go out, like most dogs?
Throwing the Bell!!
I applaud you and your pooch.....I question who is training who? Only kidding. The two of you make quite a pair. Wonder if it would work with a husband?
I've got you beat!
Twelve years ago I got a cat, who on her own found that I would let her out when she rang the bells hanging from my doors. Six years ago she taught my new puppy weimeranner how to do ring the bells. All my outside door now have bells which they know to ring to summon me. I hate to say though sometimes they lie only to get out.
Max is loving to eat grass. He begs to go out.
When he gets outside he wants to eat grass. Right now he may have gotten his fill of apples. We have three apple trees in the yard. He gets to pick up the perfect windfall each time he goes out. Today he hasn't picked up any. :(
My cat Middi expects grass
My cat Middi expects grass whenever I get back inside from having walked my dog, Gizzy. I'd better have some sprigs of greens for her or else I have to turn right around and get her some ;-) I can't seem to keep any grass alive in my apartment because it's too dark, so I just bring her some fresh when I can find it.
I am so happy we have Max in our lives
Dogs are such great companions. They can almost talk. Or is it they have taught us dog? lol
train dog with a bell to go out
I trained my Italian greyhound to do that when he was a puppy and now at the age of 7 still does it and even has different rings for what he needs to do outside.
Hi Max and I have been enjoying a great Sunday
Found this discussion and will add it to my bookmarks.
I will be very happy when we can get the ability to post pictures of our pets.
Wish I could get my dog to do that.
He's a Yorkie and I understand they are sometimes very difficult to house break. Anyone got and suggestions?

Training
I really love this idea. When I got a Rottweiller I thought it was really cute to teach her to knock on the back door. It really WAS cute until she weighed 100 lbs and nearly knocked the door down every time she knocked on it! Now I have a min-pin who pulls on me with his paw. He just turned 3 and I think I may try the ringing bell idea! Thanks for sharing this.
