Miracle at Sea: Tsunami-Swept Puppy Reunited with Owner (VIDEO)

KESENNUMA, Japan -- A sweet reunion of the canine variety occurred Monday when a puppy was rescued after Coast Guards spotted her drifting on a roof off the shores of disaster-hit Japan.

The 2-year-old female pup named Ban spent over three weeks at sea, more than a mile off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture, one of the areas hit hardest by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.

After recognizing the pup on a TV news report, the owner visited an animal care center in Kesennuma to fetch Ban, Kyodo News reported.

"I recognized her immediately after seeing her face," the owner said, as she was smothered in licks from the overjoyed puppy.

We'll never let go of her,'' the owner, hugging Ban, told a center official.

Warning: Before you watch the video, have some Kleenex nearby.
