hair growth

hi, i wanted to know if there any shampoos or vitamins that can help with growing out hair. i want to grow my hair out to be long. just 6 months my old stylist cut my hair way too short, it was like maybe right at my shoulders, and it's curly too so it did not look nice at all. i had to straighten it every day. now, my hair has grown longer it is past my shoulders now, and it's not so curly anymore so i don't have to straighten it everyday. i take about 3000 mcg of biotin everyday, and i use mane n tail shampoo. i've been told they both help with hair growth. are there better products to use for hair growth?

Sticky hair

right i found the solution, its quick and worked the first time for me
You have to go and buy the pantene cleansing shampoo, its a clear plainish bottle and i found it worked straight away suggesting the problem must hav been a build up of normal shampoo or something along those lines.
Please if u have this problem let me know if this solution works for you too.

sticky hair

Im having the exact same problem after every wash i keep getting this sticky waxy feeling at the roots. it makes it look greasy and its driving me insane.I cant find any usful info on the net jus these ideas of lemon juice or vinegar.
What do i do please help!!!!

Franna45--Help!

Franna45--

This same problem has been happening to me! At first, I thought I stood under a tree, and had tree sap fall in my hair. My hair feels as if I have put too much product, like a straightening serum on, but I use no products!

This first happened to me about 1 month ago, and went away after I tried some crazy solutions. I first soaked my hair in a dilluted lemon juice mixture to strip the hair shaft. This did nothing. The only thing that somewhat worked was sprinkling baking soda and corn starch in my hair. These agents are supposed to absorb excess oil. I did this a couple of times, washing my hair in between each sprinkling. It helped a little.

All of a sudden, the stickiness and oil went away. I thought it was a random event, but then it all came back YESTERDAY!

I have been doing some internet research because NO ONE can help me(not even my doctor or stylist). I found that this condition could be from a lack of vitamin B complex. Perhaps our bodies are not absorbing it, or we are not getting enough.

Respond to this, and I will let you know what I have found thus far! Good luck! I completely understand what you are going through! Talk to you soon!

if you use henna, instead of dying (and drying) your hair it coats it making it shiny. also it is completely natural so there are no adverse side affects. you can buy it at lush in the uk. it comes in black, brown, red dark and bright red.

naturally curly/wavy hair

Hi, I have natural wavy/curly hair too. I have been using alot of ethnic type products, but I don't overdo it, because the more you use, the more build up there is. I am caucasion, with blonde hair mixed with graying or white from being 43 yrs old...but I found a product from Africa's Best...it is a herbal oil for hair, nails and skin. I love it. It doesn't take much, and I apply it when my hair is wet, and finger comb it several times periodically until it is about dry. I stopped blow drying so much, because of dry scalp and brittly hair. I have found that the less I fuss, the better it is, and the healthier it is.

Going Gray

Love this site! I am 46 and have colored my hair on and off for the past few years.
I was unsure of myself and wanting to be like others that looked cool with colored hair. As I have matured some I see that the chic gray hair looks like stand out gems! I have chin length hair. I was told to let it grow and get a third of a inch cut every month and use a clairifying shampoo on it twice a week and a good conditioner and it will lighten some and not look so harsh compared to the gray growing in. Please any help would be appciated!
Thanking you in advance

sticky hair

My hair has been very oily and sticky for the past few months and no matter how much i wash and thoroughly attempt to get ALL the shampoo and or conditioner out, i always end up with sticky/oily hair that goes up in a messy bun because i cant wear sticky hair down... as a result of the buns it becomes very difficult to manage because they create large knots from not being able to brush it out... PLEASE!! i want my hair back!!!

AND FINE HAIR BEAUTIES...

Hi, As I wrote in my other Message, if one has fine or thin hair, use Voluminizing (spell?) hair 'poos and conditioners to the hilt. Nike Chavez uses his products on QVC.com and the gals look fantastic!!! His products are good on all hair types. Samy products too (HSN.com). His Salon is in humid Florida. He's wonderful and maybe more reasonable than Chavez. Both programs have flex-pay tho'.

Grab all the hair products that say Voluminizing. Even the Curly Beauties can use too. Results are lovely and soooo feminine. Plus Leave-In Conditioners for all hair types are marvelous too. I gravitate towards all hair products which have heavy, rich 'poos and conditioners for total saturation. Try All. I love Thermasilk, and so many others. Pleas use Hair Rollers. Those lovely Korean Beauty Shoppes carry them still. Check the Net for lots of info too. It's all Girly Fun.

Happy Upcoming Holidays!!!

coarse, thick hair help

My hair is coarse, thick and straight. I am trying to let it grow and would appreciate any suggestions for medium-length hairstyles that would work with my hair.
Any advice on styling products would be a big help too!

Gray Chic by L'Oreal

I also used Gray Chic to make my gray (white, actually) hair look prettier. I don't want to cover it up, I just want to enhance it. I called L'Oreal's 1-800 number and was told that they have discontinued Gray Chic. I asked if they have an alternative product and was told no, because "most women want to get rid of their gray hair completely." Now I'm trying to find a new product, but so far, no luck.

grey chic

Hi, did you ever find any more grey chic sheer sand/ i have been desparate to find some !

Can't find L'Oreal Gray Chic anywhere

I'm 38 and started getting grays in my late 20's. I used to highlight my hair, but then found L'Oreal Gray Chic in the color Sheer Sand. That was the best thing I've ever used. It turned my gray hairs a beautiful blonde and lightened the rest of my hair slightly. With it my hair is the same color it was when I was a kid. Perfect. I've been using it over a year now and all of a sudden, I can't find it anywhere. I can't believe it. I love the stuff. It's worth so much to me. I hope they didn't stop making it. Does anybody know where I can get some? I sent an email on the L'Oreal website, but no response. I've tried Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Eckerd's, Wal-Greens.

I'm desperate. Thank you if you can help!

going gray when possible

I'm agree with Susan. There has got to be a graceful way of going gray. I wear my hair in a bob, blonded out professionally! But I am tired of the expense, nuisance, and fumes! I am retiring from teaching this summer-a premature retirement at 55. My last "dye job" will be May 22. I'll spend a self imposed exile in my garden, until I have a 1 1/2 inch grow out, then cut all the dyed hair off. Big sacrifice, but I can't wait! Diann

how to grow out gray hair

I have been coloring my hair for years because of gray and now i am really tired of doing it every 3 weeks and also the toxicity of the chemicals. the question i have is what is the best way to grow it out without looking too much like a freak!

Shock and Awe

Hi Susan,
I've had white hair since my early twenties and had been coloring it. When I was expecting my second child (in 1976!) I thought maybe inhaling all those chemicals wasn't a great idea while pregnant. So..I had my hairdresser do a really, really heavy frosting. When I walked into work the next day everyone fainted at the drastic change BUT..after the first shock you never saw my "dye job" growing out. I've never put color in my hair again after that day and get an enormous amount of compliments on my hair color. (Saved thousands of dollors too over all these years.) The one downside now is that I'm no longer able (at 55) to say I'm "prematurely" gray :)

lost shampoo

I have gray and brown hair and was using a shampoo that really made the gray shine. I can't remember who makes it and am a little unsure of the name, although I believe it is
either Gray Fox or Silver Fox. Help! Does anyone know this shampoo and where it can be purchased.

Gigapet

You can get the shampoo and conditioner at the Vermont Country Store (http://www.shop-vermontcountrystore.com) It's very expensive--almost $8 per bottle. If you find it cheaper anywhere else, please let me know.

Curly Hair Blues

I've got thick, curly hair that I've been growing out. The front is a couple inches below my shoulders. The back goes down to the middle of my back. I have two different textures going on naturally: the very top is a tight, frizzy curl and the rest is a looser curl. I have problems with frizz and tangles. My face is square and I wear glasses. How should I style and/or cut my hair? Thanks.

CURLY HAIR BLUES--II

Here's the info I promised, or for anyone who is interested. That product I mentioned can be found in HairBoutique.com (a fun site). It's called Mine Smooth Sailing Lotion. Read the great reviews. Check Customer Care for address, etc.; it's in Texas (1-866-469-4247, M/F, 9-6 CST). It's free S/H, $20.00. Sounds totally safe.
About Curl Free: 1-800-Gillette. The Stock No. (UPC Code) is 4740061520. Try this address: POB 61, Boston, MA 02199. It's sold mainly at CVS Pharmacy (NYC). Look mainly in your area's Discount Beauty Shoppes.

I know nada about hair coloring for gray hair, but Revlon must carry some pretty safe stuff or Hydrience. Look thru the Net. Think Ladies should stick to their own haircolor as long as possible, soften the warpaint, and be as individualistic as possible, be totally themselves, dress simply in one color from head to toe, wear a striking pin, and/or earrings, or a brilliant scarf, keeping it all coordinated to set new pathways for the older woman (who is being pushed off that path these days. It's tuff out here).

Looked at Lauren Hutton's new line of M/U today -- Good Stuff -- see HSN.com. It's marvelous, she looks marvelous and she gives us all a Big Lift. So does Linda Dano -- she's just sooooo lovely.

Have fun. Cheers!

CURLY HAIR BLUES...

Well, I wrote you a toooo long a message just now, but had to rejoin The Third Age again. And now, it's almost Halloween '04. You may never see this, but it caught my eye. Your hair and face sounds pretty great and very feminine. The years are making my hair dryer and less "alive". Soooo, I've turned to today's great technology. There are tons of wonderful moisturizing 'poos and conditioners out there at my fav cheapie stores: Discount Drug Stores 'cause of my lousy budget. I like Thermasilk, Vive, Dove is great I hear, anything with Jojoba used by the Navajos, TresSemme, Pantene may still be pretty good. Just look for any conditioner with strong moisturizers.

Found a product called ZeroFrizz (look it up in the internet - great). Has delicious creamy 'poos and conditioners, just like whipped cream. No animal testing. While shampooing in the shower, I put shopping bags over my hair to let the conditioner saturate the hair shaft. Very glamorous - Ha! And gals should use hair rollers for the best sets and less hair dryers. Nice Korean stores carry them since they seem to be vanishing; don't know why.

IF one is interested there's a hair relaxer called Curl Free (The Gillette Company, Personal Care Division, Prudential Tower, Boston, MA 02199). It is cold, safe, gloves unnecessary, about $8.00 or so. It is a caucasian product -- more or less. You just comb it thru for a few mins. -- 5 to 15 or 20 mins. Write them for where you can purchase it in your area. The cheapie discount places are best.

I found a product called Mine Sailing Lotion in HairBoutique.com. Now those names are not quite correct, but will get back to you on that. Memory is rotten. But the reviews are fabulous; it's about $20 and you have to send for it. Will let you know later on.

Am thinking of buying Ojon Hair Conditioner from QVC.com (I think); look it up on the net. It's terrific and good for the hair. It's a S. American Indian Nut, but it's too much $. About $40, but it was on flex-pay recently. But do read about it tho'. I'm worried about getting baldish spots here and there. It just makes the hair shaft toooo straight tho'; I think hair should be "lively".

Check out hair products on HSN.com (Samy prods.) and QVC.com (Chavez, etc.). They have a good price on all of their items.

Think we should set up a section called Hair with a Curl. The Summers are becoming more brutal; like poor Florida.

I let my hair grow gray for 1.5 years or so and it looked awful on my toooo sallow skin. I can only use Revlon ColorSilk since I have no reaction from it. Others harm me now; too many additives. I adored Ultress but it harms me now. And Hydrience is so-so.

You should look at mags and TV gals to check out their hairdos, etc., with similar facial outline to your excellent bone structure. Wear your hair a little below your chin perhaps. Wear strong structured eyeglasses rather than a roundish or smallish shape. Your face is marvelous for photography. See photos of famous movie stars of long ago -- they were knockouts. Look at pix of Ava Gardner, for instance. Keep the hair around the face soft and feminine. Beauty books are fun and have that info in re facial structure.
To finish up, I do something I read in Mademoiselle Mag years ago. You take your very soaking wet hair, bend over, comb it as straight as possible, take a rubber band place it at a desired point and cut the hair evenly. Been doing it for ages. Looks OK. My hair is crazy anyway. Or, cut it while you still have the conditioner in it. Then rinse it out. Set with rollers afterwards.

There are great Leave-In conditioners too. Will get back to you as soon as I can. It's fun going up and down Discount aisles looking for different 'poos, etc. Have fun. (Sorry to go on.)

And Oh -- that suggestion I read about warmed Italian Virgin Olive Oil left overnight in hair, wrapped in a plastic cap or similar, is terrific. I have to start doing that again. Really helps. Cheers!

Highlighting/coloring gray

Hi,

I just turned 32 a few days ago and I have some gray hair. I have always highlighted my hair because my natural color is a very dark brown which does not match my fair skin. I have tried to go back to my natural color but everyone tells me that the highlights look much better. I need to know how often is it safe for the condition of my hair to highlight. Not long after my highlights, I am noticing my gray. I am extremely self conscience regarding this, but surely don't want to permanently damage my hair. Should I consider a color instead of highlights? Would that disguise the gray better?

Desperate in Louisiana

Grey around face shows up every week, but not all over!

I dye my hair brown, which is my natural color. I don't pull the color through to the ends to keep it from getting too dark,it does anyway, sigh. My problem is that I have mostly gray around the front hairline that needs touching up every week! The rest of my hair could wait a few weeks. I use a permanent color because of the stubborn grey around the front. I tried a few touch up products: brown mousse:it didn't work, sticks: they come in a lipstick type case: they couldn't cover it proberly without making my hair too stiff and strange looking! The semi-permanent did not cover the gray good. Do I have to keep doing the front of my hair with permanent color everyweek, as well as every few weeks for the rest of my hair? Any suggestions? Please help, it is getting too expensive to dye the front with permanent color every week! I tried to separate the permanent color into two applications, but I couldn't seem to get it even.

RE: Grey around face shows up every week, but not all over!

I don't know of any other way but to dye your roots on a regular basis.

I don't know if this would work, save those little bottles the hair color comes in. Keep the caps too.

Once you have a few saved, you can use them to save leftovers in for future applications.

What do I do with my hair?

Hi ladies
I grew my hair out for a couple of years. wore it about chin length, natural waves, lightened to a light gold blonde. Well I felt like I looked like a hag with long hair so I cut it very short. I could only find one person who knew how to use a razor for a good wispy cut. Now she's moved and the woman who used to do my hair has it looking like I'm 58 not 48. Any suggestions? Should I grow it out or shave it or just go quietly crazy? I'v changed the color to believe it or not Balsam golden brown which gives it a slight red tint that I like. But i'm still confused with the cut issue. Some people say older women shouldn't have long hair. I live in the south where people think your old at 40. I'm from California so I'm far from old minded.HELP!

Formerly Grey - Part II

Hello again, I saw tonight on the Home Shopping Network (HSN) Samy's Hair Products again. He does have a Color Enhancing Kit (3 pcs) which I am considering for myself. He has a Platinum shade which is absolutely gorgeous. One doesn't need gloves nor does it stain and eradicates the Yellow Tint too. The kit is about $26 or so. I'm planning to buy his 'poo and conditioner too. He has voluminizing and moisturizing kits. Results are terrific. Of course, there's the Internet where you could scan for yourself. Have fun!!

Formerly Grey

Hello, Thank you for that info. Will not use that product in case I decide to let my hair remain grey. Have never been crazy about L'Oreal. Will Nick Chavez products help you? Think he has hair color items, all natural. He's on QVC. Susan Lucci has hair stuff and Samy too. Again, all natural and on HSN. These programs have 800 nos. and you can speak to Customer Service. Grey hair is gorgeous; my Mother's was beautiful. On me, dreadful. I worked at Clairol and I "react" to their hair coloring. Can't even use Revlon's Ultress anymore. Too many additives in all products, I think. Hydrience is all I can use now. They have a huge color selection. See if they can help you. Really love it. Thermasilk 'poo & conditioner will help your texture. Love it madly. Go over all mags like Marie Claire and such; they're fun to scan. Take care.

Grey Chic DOESN'T Work

Don't believe all the hype about Grey Chic enhancing silver or grey hair. I have (or, HAD) grey hair and like it except for the yellow tint on the less-than-grey sections. I use toning shampoo, but was hoping for a more permanent solution. After reading glowing reviews and descriptions of Loreal Grey Chic's ability to remove the yellow cast from grey hair, I tried it. HUGE MISTAKE! IT DESTROYED MY HAIR COLOR AND TEXTURE!

It not only DID NOT reduce the yellow cast, it replaced all existing grey (which looks good on me) with a horrid yellowish creamy grey color. And I followed all instructions - even used a clarifying shampoo a day before to strip mineral deposits and gunk from hair. "Consultation" with Loreal's Grey Chic "experts" only confirmed that there is no way to get my grey hair back or color over it to create grey. So I am now stuck with a sickening shade of creamy yellowish grey until it grows out. I cannot afford to spend $70 at a salon to attempt to fix this fiasco. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT WITHOUT CAREFUL TESTING FIRST! EVEN WITH A STRAND TEST, YOU MAY BE IN FOR A BAD SURPRISE.

I WAS THINKING OF A GOLDIE HAWN...

Hello there, In re the photo, don't want to be rude or tasteless, but are you suppose to be a Third Ager??? The photograph is fantastic (& nice living quarters too). At any rate, just sit down and type up all of your beauty secrets and let us know, if you would be so kind. Of course, I forgot about Genes. And the hair is fine; men adore long hair (and Blondes). Cheers.

What do you think of that style for this hair? My hair is a few inches longer now, and I use a spray on hair lightener on it that lightens the hair when I blow dry it. My hair is all one length.
