Foods To Get You In A Sexy Mood

Natural Aphrodisiacs

Sex? For women who go through menopause, it might be the last thing on their minds. “As levels of estrogen in the blood falls, physical and emotional changes can make sexual activity more of a chore than a pleasure,” explains Alyssa Dweck. M.D., co-author of V is for Vagina: Your A-Z Guide to Periods, Piercings, Pleasures and So Much More. But don’t give up. Dweck says. “You may find these natural aphrodisiacs will give your libido a boost.”

ARGININE: This is an amino acid found in granola, oatmeal, nuts, seeds, eggs, coconut milk, and root veggies. Or you can get it in supplement form. It claims to increase blood flow to the genitals and enhance sex drive.

CHOCOLATE: It contains phenylethylamine and serotonin, chemicals that promote a feeling of wellbeing.

RED WINE:  Not only relaxing, red wine contains resveratrol, an antioxidant that helps boost blood flow and improve circulation.

OYSTERS: These shelled beauties contain zinc, which enhances sexual potency in men, and omega-3 fatty acids, which improve nervous system function.

HONEY: Rich in B vitamins and boron, both these vitamins are needed for sex hormone production.

AVOCADO: Avocados have a testicular shape. Plus, their vitamin E content is helpful in hormonal production and sexual response.

SOY: Whether in the diet or in supplement form, soy contains isoflavones, which promote vaginal lubrication because of their estrogen-like qualities. (Not appropriate for women with breast cancer.) Lastly, love your body! A common cause of low sex drive is poor body image. A healthy diet and regular exercise are keys to helping you feel like a red hot mama. Regular exercise also increases blood flow to the genitals and increases the body’s production of endorphins, those “feel-sexy” chemicals. Robin Westen is ThirdAge's medical reporter.
