Q&A: Is Using Vaseline during Sex Unsafe?

QUESTION: It was brought to my attention that Vaseline when used with latex condoms will damage the condom. Is this true?

ANSWER: Yes, this is true! Do not under, any circumstances, ever use Vaseline (or any petroleum-based lubricants) with condoms. When rubber or latex comes into contact with Vaseline, it quickly begins to deteriorate. Add some friction -- and bingo -- broken condom! It is probably a lack of knowledge about this that accounts for so many complaints about condoms breaking.

Instead of using Vaseline, stick with water-based lubricants such as K-Y Jelly or Astroglide. Most people find they work and feel better anyway.
