These positions, or Asanas (Sanskrit), don't allow for much movement. They can be, however, very balanced and meditative, focusing not so much on hard thrusting as on a more gentle movement. The couple is in this way able to be in a kind of prayer together, holding and channeling the energy.
The couple may lay in any of the following combinations: woman on back/man on top; man on back/woman on top; woman on stomach/man face down on top; side-by-side facing each other; side-by-side and back to front, as in spooning. These are excellent positions for older couples because they're generally very easy on the body.
The spooning position gives more freedom for undulating and moving in unison. Try wrapping your arms around each other or stretching your arms up over your heads and clasping hands.
Front-facing clasping positions allow for gazing into each other's eyes and breathing together in unison. These are wonderful postures to relax into, to simply enjoy the intimacy and closeness and they're perfect for after you've both had a few peaks in another position and want to cool down and focus the energy you have created. The front-facing unions also give better access to clitoral stimulation for some women.
