Home Grown Beauty Tips

Beauty treatments are available aplenty -- and for plenty -- in the marketplace. But do-it-yourselfers can achieve much with a well-supplied garden and a little effort.

British home remedy and treatment experts have this recipe for a lotion to treat dry skin: Blend one-fourth pint of rosewater, one-fourth pint of distilled witch hazel and five drops of glycerin in a sterilized bottle and shake well before use. Such flower waters soften the skin and add elasticity to it.

For a face mask, boil six or seven plums with a small quantity of spring water. After the mixture cools, take out the kernels and mash the insides of the plums into a pulp. Dump it into a liquidizer, add a teaspoonful of almond oil and blend.

If you want a home-brew cleansing mask, make a tablespoonful of potato juice and add a similar quantity of fuller's earth, mix to a paste and apply. After the mask dries, remove the residue crust with tepid water, dry and apply elderflower or tomato toner to soften the skin.
