Bin Laden Killing: 8 Astonishing Revelations

The New Yorker magazine has released an article written by Nicholas Schmidle that reveals new details on SEAL Team Sixs raid on Osama bin Ladens compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, reports the GlobalPost.

When Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2nd 2011, a nine-year hunt for the man who claimed responsibility for the loss of 2,973 lives on 9/11 finally ended. Rumors and speculations swirled about the details of the historic shooting but only now some are the facts coming to light. Here are eight recent disclosures from a piece in this week's issue of The New Yorker:

  1. The words the SEAL who killed Osama bin Laden radioed home were: "For God and country - Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo." 
  2. The SEALs always intended to shoot Bin Laden rather than capture him.
  3. Key Advisers, including Robert Gates, objected to the plan.
  4. The mission nearly failed during the first minute after the helicopter went down.
  5. President Obama has not asked who pulled the trigger and no one will ever know.
  6. Medics took samples of bone marrow from Bin Laden's body.
  7. The SEALs were not wearing helmet cameras as had been previously reported.
  8. Bin Laden's body was offered to the Saudis for burial but they refused it.
