Is Katie Couric going to ABC? It seems as if The Perky One’s discussion about a possible daytime talk show with CBS have broken down. At least, that’s what several sources are reporting. She wanted too much involvement with CBS’s news division, and we all know how Katie’s involvement with news at CBS has worked out.
But ABC? Barbara and Diane and Katie, oh my. Can one network stand all those queens of media? Can the viewers? Or would a Katie plus Barbara plus Diane make up for ABC losing Oprah? Though it didn’t seem all that comfortable when Diane and Barbara co-anchored the Royal Wedding together.
It seemed to us on that day that Diane seemed a lot more smiley-faced whenever she turned her carefully guarded mic over to her pal David Muir rather than to Barbara. (If you watch the evening news on ABC you can see how much Diane seems to adore David. She is always gushing her thanks at him. ) And when Barbara did a special on Friday night on the Royal Wedding she used a lot of commentary from other sources, but somehow Diane just wasn’t included.
Would Katie really be such a success on a daytime talk show? Remember former Today co-host Jane Pauley tried to launch one several years ago and it was a flop? All one can say—and this time it makes sense to say it—stay tuned.
