Do It Yourself Taxes

How many of you do your own taxes? I'm considering it this year -- any suggestions for good programs that could provide helpful assistance?

It Depends

I'm a CPA and have always done my own taxes. I don't have a very complicated return and I've been using Turbo Tax for over 10 years. Turbo Tax and I believe Tax Cut are very good for the average taxpayer. If you have anything that is complicated, I would suggest a professional, and I don't mean H & R or the other chains.

Another Tax program

I have used a program called Tax Act for about the last eight years. One year I compared it with Turbo Tax and there was only a difference of less than five dollars with Tax Act giving the best refund. The cost difference is from $8 to $24 with Tax Act cost of $12.95. A state program is also available and this includes one free eFile. Tax Act guides you through the entire form and answers all of your questions based on the best known tax preparation book on the market. Tax Act is available at TaxAct.com

Try Turbo Tax

I used Turbo Tax this year and it was great. They pretty much take you through it step-by-step. I don't know if I got as big a return as I could've, but it sure was convenient!

I can second turbo tax. It's

I use the cheapest version

I use the cheapest version of TaxCut ($19.99). Works fine; print out return and file using USPS (may use eFile). Cheaper and every bit as easy as TurboTax. I use for 1040 with Sched. A, B, and D. No problems using for last 4 years.
