All work and no play make Jack a dull boy

Taking the time to play and to rest are probably the most important things we can do to insure we find balance in our lives.  As I am writing this blog I am getting ready to leave for two weeks vacation. We are going to Turkey and Greece.  I feel tired and ready to get away from it all and just relax.

One of the reasons we need to play and relax is it allows the body-mind the time it needs to regroup.  Relaxation let’s us escape from the pressures and stresses of everyday life.

I don’t know what adventures or wisdom my vacation will bring but what ever happens I intend to flow and move with balance and ease.

If I had to choose one of my personal top reasons for wanting to be in good physical and mental health, it’s so that I can travel and explore the world.  For many of us, midlife brings the time and resources to do the things we enjoy the most. That for most of us spells, PLAY!

Play instills relaxation and relaxation is beneficial because it helps us to detach from the perceived dramas of life. Relaxation provides a peaceful state where we restore our physical and mental energy.

When we are relaxed the breath is steady and the body is free of unnatural tension.  Mentally we become quiet, responsible, accepting, connected, directed, free, and integrated.  These are the qualities of a well adjusted adult consciousness.

This is going to be a short blog because I am getting ready to go and my mind is now set on vacation. Work is waning away and Asia/Europe is calling!   When I return I’ll share some of my adventures with you.  If you are planning a trip to Turkey or Greece I’ll be happy to share places to stay, things to do, and great food to eat.

Before I close, please take this moment and remind yourself to play.  Life is short and unpredictable.  The moment is all we have so make the most of it. Have fun!

Thank you Dr. Lynn for your insight. With my workload atop of my school load finding the time to relax has become almost a full time job. I wish I had the time and means to travel to exotic locations, however what I have done instead is create a travel blog detailing many of the far off places I dream of one day visiting. As you can see if you visit Travel Guide at Harvard, the list of places I want to go is extensive...and keeps growing practically everyday. If I can't go myself at least I can attempt to help others and enjoy in their travels vicariously. Thanks again.
