Intuit

What is intuition and just how does it affect our health?  No doubt we all have some level of awareness of that sixth sense we call intuition.  Women proclaim it. Men call it a hunch. But for all of us it is that little voice within that speaks to us through a feeling in the gut. We call it having a “gut” feeling. But just what is it and how does it affect our health?

Webster’s Dictionary defines intuition as: the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference.

So intuition is the power to know something without any rational explanation. We simply know because we feel. We all know it exist, however many times we close out the voice and revert to making our decisions and solving our problems based upon hard core data and facts.

In yoga we might refer to this intuitive process as discovering the voice from within. We seek to connect with our inner self so that we can listen with clarity and hopefully find with some certainty the answers to our questions and the solutions to our problems. Ah but alas nothing in life is certain accept change so our voice serves only as a guiding light that if followed will always lead to health in body, mind and soul.  That’s because health is a by-product of loving and being true to your self. The natural state of the body-mind is to seek balance. When balance is achieved health is achieved. As long as the body-mind is operating in perfect balance all systems are working optimally and health is realized.

The voice within can not be heard when we fill our lives with chatter and clutter. Noise and chaos create stress and stress creates imbalance and imbalance creates ill health. So to gain access to our intuition in its strongest sense we need to empower the body-mind with quietude and serenity which ultimately leads to clarity and truth.

Let’s give it a try; find a quiet spot and sit comfortably. Close your eyes and focus on the power of your breath. Take in deep inhales and release deep exhales. Continue to breathe deep clearing your mind of thoughts and allow yourself to sit quietly. Open the pathway to your soul and follow your intuition. It is sure to bring health to the body, mind and soul.
