The Creative Mind: Changes in the 21st Century

I like to think that everyone is creative in some way, shape, or form. Some of us are good talkers, good writers, great artists, or engaged in some other creative endeavor - yet to be described.

As a young child, I used to write little stories about -- well, myself. The main character was me. A little girl who was unhappy and lost, and wanted a puppy. I don't remember why I wrote such sad stories. I can guess...there were some unpleasant events that probably painted my world a little darker than it might have been. Nothing earth-shattering - but, when you're three, even minor things can cloud your perception. I did grow out of it.

Meanwhile, back to being creative. I grew up, kept writing, did some drawing (and would like to get back to that - to actually take some classes), and met so many other talented, creative folks, that I truly feel blessed. To be honest, I think all the writers here at ThirdAge are very talented and creative. I especially love Jill Fallon and this week's post.

But, I also think the readers are astonishingly creative. I say "astonishingly" because before writing here, I never stopped to think about the creativity in all the people around me. Now, when I read some of the comments to these blog post - my posts and the others' posts - I say, "Wow! I wish I'd thought of that." It isn't that the words or comments are astonishing...it's that so many people that we would otherwise think of as "average" really aren't. They're superstars. They just don't know it. Yet.

Therefore, in the spirit of creativity, I thought I'd share some links and blogs about creativity. These will either spark the creativity you already have, or inspire something new. Whatever happens, I hope you'll come back here and share it with me. Drawings, writings, poetry, pictures of your handicrafts, whatever.  Photography, baking, designing...share it. The blogosphere awaits your talents!

Yvonne - You are so right - we all have astonishing potential for creativity inside us. Your post is like a gentle wake up alarm for us all to look inside ourselves, believe in and find our creativity, and then, more importantly, to use it. Thanks for such a great post. Kevin :)
