Eating disorders and alcohol abuse are a disturbing and potentially fatal combination. Could it be happening in the life of someone you know? Ninety percent of people dealing with eating disorders are women between the ages of 12 to 25. But it’s not just young women, it’s women in their 30’s, 40’s 50’s…even men have eating disorders. In a recent New York Times article entitled “Starving Themselves, Cocktail in Hand,” they talked about alcohol abuse being teamed with eating disorders. They mentioned a new term buzzing around called “drunkorexia” which is the dangerouse mix of eating disorders and alcohol abuse. This week on my Internet Show, I talk with Registered Dietitian, Licensed Nutritionist and author of Setting Places, Karen Beerbower. She sheds a lot of light on the disorders. Ms. Beerbower holds a Master’s Degree in Medical Science from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is president of Nutritional Guidance, a consulting firm in Orlando, Florida, and specializes in the treatment of eating disorders. Be sure and listen when you have a moment.
