Battle Acid Reflux Disease

Sufferers from acid reflux disease -- an estimated 60 million in the United States -- report that their symptoms affect then emotionally and physically. The American College of Gastroenterology says more than 56 percent of people with the disorder complain the symptoms affect their work. Heartburn and impaired swallowing can make it difficult to sleep, and as we all know lack of sleep can contributes to a host of ills, including diabetes, weight gain and possibly Alzheimers.


Acid reflux disease occurs when stomach acid backs up into the esophagus, causing heartburn or acid indigestion, regurgitation, impaired swallowing and chest pain. If left untreated, acid reflux disease can cause serious damage to the esophagus.

A Roper Starch survey of 1,000 adults, commissioned by Jannssen Pharmaceutica, says 28 percent of adults who suffer from acid reflux have had to take sick time from their jobs and 28 percent say it has adversely affected their sex lives. Over 75 percent say acid reflux disease affects them emotionally.often battle to get to sleep without associated heartburn or impaired swallowing.
