Could Glenn Beck lose his eyesight to macular dystrophy within one year? Apparently yes! Beck, the conservative U.S. talk-show host, announced that he has been diagnosed with the eye disorder, macular dystrophy. The disorder could potentially cost him his eyesight in a year.
The 46-year-old host says he went to a doctor after having trouble focusing his eyes a few weeks ago. It was then that he was diagnosed with the disorder.
Macular dystrophy is uncommon, according to WebMD. Those with it have a significant reduction in vision anywhere from age 20 to 40.
Beck made the announcement last weekend during an American Revival event in Salt Lake City.
"I said, 'Did you just charge me a thousand dollars for knowing what I already knew my whole life?'" he recounted to the crowd. "I knew that at 3 [years old]! You might go blind someday. You might not."
People.com said Beck appeared teary-eyed as he told fans he has accepted the diagnosis and now regards it as "the greatest blessing."
"Lord, if you need my eyes, they're yours. They've been yours the whole time, anyway," the Web site quoted Beck as saying. "Thank you for letting me see as far as I have."
